The Automotive business today

Little did the inventors of automotives know that a day will come when car and parts manufactures will start merging and companies will also start outsourcing the component designs. Today most of the big organizations in automotive business are concentrating on financing the buyers to lure them into buying their specified products. Additionally, they are paying much more attention to recruiting the best car dealers.

The effect of E-commerce on automotive business

Internet has made the business world shrink considerably. The effect is visible on automotive business too. Online sites like Ebay and Autobytel involve in buying and selling of millions of automobiles on line. These sites and many others, dealing with automotive business also take care of other aspects like service and insurance required by consumers. Manufacturers are using the latest methods to manage their supply and inventories.

A brief overview of history of automotives

An automobile conversely named as automotive in the commercial world, is a wheeled passenger vehicle driven by a motor. They generally refer to vehicles that use roads. This however, does not cover motor driven two wheelers. The term automobile or automotive was derived from the Greek world "auto" which means "self" and Latin word "mobilis" that means "movable". The entire thing refers to the fact the vehicle can move by itself. The most used automotive word "car" has its root in the ancient chariots and carriages used in Greece, Rome, France, and England. The number of car users is largest in United States of America, followed by Japan, Germany, France, and England.

The invention

Way back in 1885, Karl Benz of Germany invented the Otto gasoline engine. Various experiments took place of whom the motorized handcart was nearest to an automotive invented in 1870 by Siegfried Marcus. However, Karl Benz was the first to produce a three-wheeled automobile in 1885. Gottlieb Daimler built around thirty automotives during 1890 to 1895. Both Benz and Daimler were unaware of each other's inventions. But after the death of Daimler, the two companies joined as Daimler-Benz in 1926. However, the automotives as we see today made its first appearance with the Ford vehicles in 1927. Henry Ford, the founder of Ford-foundations, improved upon the large-scale, production line manufacturing of automotives commenced by Ransom Eli Olds at Oldsmobile factory in 1902. One peculiar aspect of automotive industry has been that the traditional piston and crankshaft design automotives have been much more successful compared to the experimental piston-less rotary engine vehicles.

Top automotive producing countries

A survey during 2005 revealed that USA tops the automotive producing countries with approximately 11.52 million vehicle per annum, followed by Japan with 10.06 million, Germany 5.54 million, China 5.07 million, South Korea 3.66 million, France 2.68 million, Canada 2.62 million, Brazil 2.38 million, and United Kingdom 1.78 million. India ranks 12th in the list of automotive producing countries with production of 1.41 million vehicles per annum and Russia stands at 13th position in the same list with production of 1.27 million vehicles per annum.

The latest trend

When the world is slowly but steadily moving towards computer technology, how could automotives be far behind? As much as 20% of the electronic parts of a modern car are computerized and this is likely to be enhanced to around 40% by end of 2010. Though these inclusions make the model costlier, yet buyers prefer them for the comfort, security and ease of driving they offer.
